Bridging the Gap in Trombone Education
The mission of this resource is to democratize access to quality trombone instruction by providing comprehensive, free educational resources to pre-collegiate students regardless of their geographic location or economic circumstances.
Through carefully designed digital resources that combine expert pedagogy with practical instruction, this project aims to empower independent learners with the foundational knowledge, technical skills, and practice strategies needed for musical growth. It strives to level the playing field for students in rural and underserved communities who lack access to specialized trombone instruction, and to support student success by helping aspiring musicians arrive at college better prepared and more confident in their abilities. Above all, it seeks to foster musical excellence through resources grounded in pedagogical best practices and comprehensive musicianship.
While the primary focus is on pre-collegiate intermediate to advanced students preparing for college auditions and music study, this resource is designed to serve trombonists at all levels of playing. Whether you are taking your first steps with the instrument or refining advanced techniques, you will find materials and guidance suited to your current stage of development and musical goals.
Driven by passion
Born from years of teaching experience and witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by students who arrive at college without adequate preparation, this resource addresses a critical gap in music education. Every aspiring trombonist deserves the opportunity to develop fundamental skills, understand proper technique, and prepare for collegiate music study—whether or not they have access to private lessons or robust school music programs.
This work is guided by principles of educational equity, accessibility, and the belief that opportunity—not zip code or income—should determine success in music education.
How did we get here?
Through carefully designed digital resources that combine expert pedagogy with practical instruction, this project aims to empower independent learners with the foundational knowledge, technical skills, and practice strategies needed for musical growth. It strives to level the playing field for students in rural and underserved communities who lack access to specialized trombone instruction, and to support student success by helping aspiring musicians arrive at college better prepared and more confident in their abilities. Above all, it seeks to foster musical excellence through resources grounded in pedagogical best practices and comprehensive musicianship.
Digital resources cannot fully replace one-on-one instruction with a skilled teacher, but this project is committed to ensuring that lack of access to traditional instruction does not prevent talented, dedicated students from pursuing their musical aspirations.
